The many languages of Lahyrnt
Thousands of languages are spoken by Lahyrnt's inhabitants. Although Lahyrnt (English pronunciation: la-HEERNT) has a high degree of racial diversity, as the vast majority of Lahyrntians are indigenous to Lahyrnt, there are few languages spoken on Lahyrnt that are not indigenous to Lahyrnt.
Many, but not all, of the languages spoken on Lahyrnt are part of the Lahyrntian language family, which includes all of the languages that descended from the pre-historic Proto-Lahyrntian language. The Neo-Proto-Lahyrntian language (English pronunciation: NEE-oh-proh-toh-la-HEERN-tee-(n) LANG-gwij), which is the official language of the Lahyrntian Imperial Democratic Republic despite being spoken as a primary language by very few Lahyrntians, can be thought of as a modern reconstruction of the Proto-Lahyrntian language, except more complex. Neo-Proto-Lahyrntian is a very complex language, incorporating many vowel sounds, many consonant sounds, a complex contour tone system, usage of morae (singular: mora) to determine syllable weight, complex systems of grammatical case, gender, count, tense, aspect, mood, and voice, and a complex system of numbers that is primarily a sexagesimal (i.e., base-60) number system, and the system used to write Neo-Proto-Lahyrntian is also very complex.
In addition to the Lahyrntian language family, languages from dozens of other language families, as well as numerous languages isolate, which are languages that are not part of a language family with any other language, are also spoken on Lahyrnt.
